Bonanza Demo & Slot Review

Watch the carts above Bonanza’s middle reels. When a win removes symbols, replacements arrive from above on the main field and from the right in the carts. That second direction is not background decoration: the cart symbols contribute to the reels beneath them and can change the next evaluated combination.

Bonanza

4.0 out of 5

Bonanza is Big Time Gaming’s six-reel Megaways slot with up to 117,649 ways. The current product catalog dates it to 7 December 2016. Mining carts, gemstones and GOLD Scatters give the presentation a specific role in the reel and feature structure.

This review concerns Bonanza itself, not Bonanza Falls, Bonanza More Gold or another similarly named release. The Big Time Gaming profile explains the studio’s wider catalog, while the Megaways category separates changing symbol counts from fixed paylines and cluster pays.

Bonanza Return:
from 95.98% to 96.11%

The older provider page lists 96.00%, a checked operator rules page lists 95.98%, and the current provider catalog lists 96.11% alongside a purchase option. These differences are retained as source and version distinctions; they are not collapsed into one universal RTP.

Bonanza review overview

The ways count describes the current field

The number of available ways changes with the symbols represented on the reels. The maximum of 117,649 is not a promise that every spin uses that many ways, and it is not a count of separately paid paylines. A qualifying combination still needs matching symbols on consecutive reels from the left.

For a simplified counting example, three matching positions on the first reel, two on the second and one on the third create six combinations through those three reels. The symbol’s actual award and any further matching reels remain separate parts of the calculation. More ways do not guarantee a larger credited result on a particular spin.

The carts belong to the reels underneath

Each cart above reels two through five contributes a symbol to the reel below it. The horizontal row therefore affects the main combination structure. In the documented original rules, Wilds appear in those carts and substitute for ordinary symbols, excluding Scatters.

This is a useful contrast with Extra Chilli, where the extra reel sits below the main field and the entry mechanics differ. The two games share a family resemblance without being interchangeable descriptions.

Who Bonanza suits

Bonanza suits readers who want to understand a foundational Megaways structure through a concrete example. The main appeal is how the upper reel and reactions combine, rather than a choice between many bonus modes. If you want persistent position upgrades or several separate feature selections, this original is comparatively focused.

Best for

  • Readers learning how a variable ways field is evaluated
  • People interested in an extra reel that directly contributes to combinations
  • Players comparing the original Bonanza with later BTG designs

Not ideal for

  • Anyone expecting 117,649 active paylines on every spin
  • Readers seeking several different bonus modes in one title
  • Players assuming all older and current supplied versions have the same purchase menu

How Bonanza rules and features work

A reaction continues the same paid round

Winning symbols are removed and replaced. Main-reel replacements come from above, while the carts refill from the right. If the new field produces another qualifying combination, another reaction follows. These resolutions belong to the original paid round rather than each charging a new base stake.

The session-tracking guide is useful when a clip shows several awards from one initial debit. Record the complete round total, not just its first win, and do not inflate turnover by counting every replacement landing as a purchased spin.

Combinations still begin on the left

The documented rules pay matching consecutive symbols from the leftmost reel, regardless of their vertical position. A group of gems on reels three, four and five does not qualify merely because the game uses Megaways. The required starting reel and symbol-specific minimum still apply.

Only the highest eligible win per combination is paid, while different winning combinations are added. The paytable guide explains why a ways calculation needs both the number of matching positions and the symbol’s own payout rule.

Four GOLD Scatters start twelve spins

Four Scatters spelling GOLD award 12 free spins. Each additional Scatter in that activating result adds five more. This trigger count is different from the three-HOT-Scatter condition in Extra Chilli, despite the similar reactive field.

The feature uses the triggering stake. A large Scatter display is an entry condition, not a separate claim that the final free-spin total will exceed the cost of all the base-game rounds that came before it.

The feature multiplier grows with reactions

The free-spin multiplier starts at 1× and increases by one after each reaction. Its progression belongs to the feature rather than resetting simply because the next free spin starts. That persistence is the main difference from a short base-game cascade chain with no retained feature counter.

If a particular eligible award is €1 before the modifier and the applicable counter is 4×, that award contributes €4. A later increase to 5× does not retroactively turn the earlier €4 into €5. Follow the displayed counter at the time of the evaluated result.

The carts can award extra feature spins

During free spins, the cart row can contain Free Spin Scatter symbols. Three award five additional spins; four award ten. These feature Scatters have a different role from ordinary paying gems and cannot be replaced by the Wild under the checked original rules.

The cart row therefore remains relevant after the initial GOLD trigger. It can contribute to regular combinations and to the feature’s extension conditions, but those awards should be read separately before the final total is interpreted.

Current purchase information needs a version label

The current provider catalog advertises a 90×-stake purchase of 12 free spins. The older provider page and original operator help used here do not describe that purchase menu. This review records the current option without pretending that it must appear in every legacy or locally supplied build.

At a €0.20 base stake, 90× costs €18. A hypothetical €12 feature result is 60× the base stake but a €6 loss against that purchase. The Bonus Buy guide explains why a large-looking multiple can still fall below the actual entry price.

An unbounded feature counter is not an unlimited payout promise

The rules describe an unlimited free-spin multiplier. The current catalog separately publishes a 26,000× maximum payout figure, while an older operator help page states a monetary ceiling. A growing feature counter does not cancel the supplied game’s payout limits.

Those figures also do not turn Bonanza into a progressive jackpot. The mining and gold imagery belongs to the gold-themed collection; the game’s feature multiplier is not a shared prize pool funded by other players.

Comparing the original rules with the current purchase-enabled listing

The review uses Big Time Gaming’s original product page, its current official catalog and the matching original-game operator help, checked on 15 October 2026. A separate help entry for a similarly named five-reel game was excluded after its field and rules failed the identity check. No cash session or observed maximum award is claimed.

The sources agree on the six-reel Megaways structure, cart contribution and GOLD feature. They differ on RTP and whether a purchase option is described. That is a useful reason to identify the supplied build before comparing a personal result with a review, rather than selecting the highest percentage and assuming all other settings match.

For a recorded round, keep the stake and the full cart row in view. Then distinguish the initial paid result, subsequent reactions and any free-spin entry. A cropped section of the field cannot show all the symbols contributing to the four middle reels.

The provider’s current 26,000× figure is presented as its listing, not as a maximum independently reached or verified by this author. The maximum-win analysis explains why that number contributes little to predicting an ordinary session.

How to play Bonanza responsibly

A nearly completed GOLD trigger or a long reaction chain does not predict the next paid spin. Decide your spending limit before play and read any purchase cost separately from the base stake. The completed round total and the complete session result are more useful than the largest multiplier seen during the feature.

  1. Identify the supplied version.

The current purchase-enabled listing and older rules do not show identical settings.

  2. Include the cart symbols.

They contribute to the middle reels and can affect both wins and feature extensions.

  3. Record the actual cost.

A feature’s base-stake multiple does not establish profit on a purchased entry.

Symbols and Paytable

Regular gemstones and card symbols form combinations on consecutive reels. The Wild appears in the upper carts in the checked original rules and excludes Scatters. GOLD Scatters trigger the feature, while Free Spin Scatters in the carts can extend it.

Cart Wild

Appears in the carts above reels two to five and substitutes for ordinary symbols, excluding Scatters.

GOLD Scatter

Four award twelve free spins; each additional triggering Scatter adds five.

Free Spin Scatter

Appears in the carts during free spins; three add five spins and four add ten.

The feature table records the confirmed initial and extension counts. It is not a substitute for the running game’s complete regular-symbol paytable. Ways describe possible combinations; a specific gem still has its own minimum matching count and award value.

Feature or condition Award / multiplier
4 GOLD Scatters 12
Each additional initial Scatter +5
3 feature Scatters in carts +5
4 feature Scatters in carts +10
Current listed purchase 90×

Do not treat the horizontal cart row as a separate seventh paying reel. Each of its four positions contributes to the corresponding middle reel beneath it. That relationship is central to reading the resolved field correctly.

Bonanza RTP, volatility and maximum win

The checked sources list 95.98%, 96.00% and 96.11% in different contexts. On €250 of turnover, those correspond to theoretical losses of €10.05, €10 and €9.725 before cent rounding. These are long-run comparisons, not expected results from one feature. The review does not infer which purchase or legacy configuration is running solely from the Bonanza title or the artwork.

How to interpret the numbers

Key point 1

A large ways count is the capacity of the current field, not a guaranteed award. Matching symbols and their payout rules still determine the result.

Key point 2

On mobile, keep the entire cart row visible. Cropping it can hide Wilds and symbols that contribute to the middle reels.

Key point 3

Small but real RTP differences across sources deserve a version check. A current purchase menu should not be assumed from an old original-game description.

Bonanza on mobile

Both official product sites describe HTML5 support for mobile and desktop. The operator help identifies stake, balance, win and menu controls, with some options dependent on the supplied game. This review does not claim a handset performance test. The specific readability issue is the connection between the horizontal cart row and the middle reels below it.

Mobile checks

  • Read the supplied RTP and full game name

  • Keep the cart row and middle reels visible together

  • Locate the current feature multiplier and remaining spins

  • Check any purchase confirmation in currency

Bonanza compared with other games

Extra Chilli moves the extra reel and adds Feature Drop and a free-spin gamble. Gonzo’s Quest has cascades on a fixed-line field with bounded chain multipliers. Sugar Rush uses clusters and position multipliers. These distinctions explain more than grouping all three as games where winning symbols disappear.

Bonanza compared with other games
Game Return / max win Volatility Bonus fit Watch out for
Bonanza 95.98%–96.11% / 26,000× — Four GOLD Scatters award twelve spins with a multiplier that develops through reactions; cart Scatters can add further spins. The current 90× purchase is a documented version option, not a feature that can be assumed in every supplied original build.
Extra Chilli 96.15%–96.82% / 24,236× — HOT Scatters award eight initial spins, with optional gamble stages before a feature whose multiplier develops through reactions. A failed gamble can end the feature, and the purchase cost must be compared with the final cash return rather than the base-stake multiple alone.
Dynamite Riches 90.72%–96.18% / 5,341× — Four collected-symbol stages unlock different modifiers, alongside a separate Gold Spins trigger and extension formula. Progress can persist by stake, but the remaining symbol count does not establish the remaining cost or guarantee a favourable next round.

Bonanza’s clearest strength is the relationship between the cart row and the reacting main field. If you want more feature choices, compare that requirement directly rather than treating a larger ways maximum as greater depth.

How this Bonanza review was checked

Publication status: Original and current official BTG listings plus matching operator rules checked on 15 October 2026. Version-dependent purchase and RTP details are distinguished, with no claimed paid session.

  • Mechanics — 4.3/5, weight 30%. The upper cart reel and dual-direction reactions work directly with the variable ways field.

  • Pace and variety — 3.7/5, weight 25%. Changing reel heights and reactions vary rounds, while the feature remains one focused progression loop.

  • Distinctiveness — 4.4/5, weight 20%. The mining carts have a mechanical role that differentiates the original from generic cascade games.

  • Rules and controls — 3.6/5, weight 15%. The core rules are readable, but differing current and legacy configurations require explicit checking.

  • Presentation — 4.0/5, weight 10%. The mine, carts and gems support the game's underlying structure in the official presentation.

  • How the total is calculated. 4.3 × 0.30 + 3.7 × 0.25 + 4.4 × 0.20 + 3.6 × 0.15 + 4.0 × 0.10 = 4.035, rounded to 4.0/5.

  • Evidence and limits. The rating evaluates documented mechanics and official presentation. It is not based on a personal session, maximum-win size or another reviewer's score.

FAQs

Does Bonanza have 117,649 paylines on every spin?

No. It uses variable Megaways with a maximum of 117,649 ways. The actual field and matching-symbol combinations determine the result.

What do the upper carts contribute?

Each cart adds a symbol to the middle reel beneath it, covering reels two through five. Reactions replace cart symbols from the right.

How many Scatters trigger free spins?

Four GOLD Scatters award twelve spins. Each additional Scatter in the activating result adds five more.

Does the bonus multiplier reset between free spins?

The documented feature multiplier develops across reactions during the free-spin feature. It should not be treated as a new base-game counter after every feature spin.

Can Bonanza’s free spins be extended?

Yes. Three Free Spin Scatters in the carts add five spins, and four add ten under the checked original rules.

Does every Bonanza version have the 90× purchase?

No universal availability is established. The current provider catalog describes that option, while older original-game help does not. Check the supplied build and its confirmation screen.
